Once upon a time there was a sweet baby boy who came to live with a new family. he was 5 months old, failure to thrive, and had many medical problems, he could not hold his own head up, would not respond to noise or stimulation. He was lethargic and barely did anything besides sleep. He had a very upset tummy all the time and weighed barely 13 pounds. His new family fell madly in love with him before he even moved in. Slowly this baby began to respond to his new family members. He began to make progress and grow. Stimulation was very overwhelming to him and the only way he could calm down was to hold his new mama's hair. It never mattered how upset he was or for what reason he was upset if he could hold mama's hair he was instantly clam. As he grew he began to pull his own hair and his mama's hair, he would hold the hair in his little hand and rub it on his cheek while sucking his thumb. Time went by and mama tried all kinds of tricks to get him to let go of his attachment to her hair. Buying fake ponytails, troll dolls, anything that felt remotely close to her hair. He rejected all suggestions. Baby boy will use mama's hair to fall asleep to calm himself when he is sad or upset. He wakes in the night with terrible night terrors and uses mama's hair to soothe himself back to sleep.
One day God spoke to mama and told her to join a team of amazing people who were raising money to find a cure for childhood cancers, the team members will all shave their heads. Mama argued with God for nearly 2 weeks listing out all the reasons why she should NOT join this team. Finally mama made a deal with God (this is never a good idea and highly discouraged behavior) the deal was she would tell papa all about the idea (minus the God speaking part, again not a good plan) if papa said ok then mama would join the team. Well, papa half listened to mama's story then declared "I don't care what you do." so mama promptly repented and joined the team.
Mama has spent much time talking to baby boy about the shave day. There was even an article in the local paper about the event. Every time mama talks about the shaving event baby boy grabs mamas hair snuggles his face in and cries "But I LOVE your hair".
Today is the day. At 3:00 this afternoon papa will bring baby boy and all his siblings to the event to watch mama shave her head to raise money for a cure for childhood cancer. Mama is a little nervous about how baby boy will react. But she has put a lot of prayer and thought into this and knows that since God spoke to her and told her to join the team then He will take care of baby boy and find baby boy a new way to comfort himself. If you are reading this story would you take just a moment and say a little prayer for baby boy...thanks!
updates and photos to come later....
